And with Rex’s call to arms still ringing in our ears, we bid farewell to this chapter. Part three of our four-part tale will follow… soon. But first we will be taking a brief mid-season break to allow Alberto to catch his breath and to get ahead on pages. This should allow for an unbroken run through the next chapter, which will commence on June 11th. Between now and then, I will be posting an update or two to the site and I will be keeping a close eye on the comments so fear not, nobody will be left here entirely alone.

To those of you who do occasionally leave comments, either here or on Facebook, please accept my sincerest thanks. Yours are the voices that remind us our audience consists of actual people rather than just the anonymous void of the Internet. To a band of comickers trying to reach people with our story, those little reminders mean so much.

To the silent majority, thank you for reading. We hope you’re enjoying the comic so far.

See you all very soon for revelations, intrigue and more than a little superpowered suspense…

I hate when stories use dream sequences.

It’s often a cheap trick to build dramatic tension without actually having any impact on “real-world” events, or a device to undo real-at-the-time developments you later regret (most famously here). If we are guilty of either of these, it is most certainly the former rather than the latter. And I like to think that we lessened the blow somewhat by putting in plenty of indicators that Rex was only imagining what might happen inside that Gallery. Go back and take another look. He even watches a ghostly version of himself crossing the road while a car stereo plays the Chordettes’ “Mr Sandman”. We weren’t being particularly subtle.

But for those of you who feel cheated or duped by the last few pages, I apologise.

The reality is this – the phonecall that continues into the caption boxes is entirely real. I’m pretty proud of that phonecall. It reveals a lot about both the blackmailer and Rex, and it was always going to be in the comic. I could have scripted it entirely as two guys talking on the phone. But once the back and forth turns into a one-sided verbal assault, I felt it would be more interesting to show what effect that tirade has on Rex’s mind. It causes him to fantasise about what might happen if he just did as he was told for once. And, as is often the case, the fantasy (or daydream if you prefer) pretty quickly strays to the worst case scenario.

So the bullet to the chest wasn’t real. But those pages still carry weight, both as a “What if?” and as a little insight into two very different, usually very private minds. And I promise there will be no more dream sequences or fake-outs in Propeller. Because I still hate them. Especially this one.

No. No, we wouldn’t.

For the past few weeks I’ve been keeping pretty quiet and allowing the comic to speak for itself but, as we near the end of the second of four chapters, I felt that I should try to get back into the habit of saying a few words. My original plan for this page was to demonstrate Rex’s push teleportation power in mid-flow, with the teleporting process frozen at a moment when half of the Gallery Manager was rematerialising inside the gallery while the other half had yet to dematerialise outside. I can tell you now that there is no way to illustrate a half-teleported man without it looking like said man has been killed in a most horrifying manner. My thanks to Alberto for trying though. I hope you’ll agree that his ghosting effect is a much more elegant method of showing near-simultaneous departure and arrival.
